On Sunday 4th June 2023, Pervade’s CTO Jonathan Davies, competed in and completed the Ironman European Championship race held in Hamburg, Germany. Renowned as being one of the toughest single-day sporting races in the world, the Ironman poses an immense test of physical and mental endurance. With a total distance of 140.6 miles, the race is split into a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run.
Jonathan had been training for just over a year for this difficult event, training that included smaller races such as the Winchester Big Way Round trail marathon and the Ironman 70.3 race in Weymouth, UK last September. Since January 2023, Jonathan increased his training load to 6 days per week and gave up other sports, such as rock climbing and gymnastics, in order to avoid injury that might disrupt his training.
It was a very early start for the athletes in Hamburg, with the sun shining and everybody ready to go by 6:20am, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement. With over 3,000 registered participants, Hamburg is one of the largest Ironman events in the world and the coveted European Championship titles ensured the quality of the field and pace of the race were both high. Only 2,044 athletes finished the race, and we are proud to say that Jonathan was one of them finishing with an incredible time of 11 hours, 28 minutes, and 37 seconds, placing him 212th in his age group.
